Center for Executive Leadership in Government
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey
33 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ
9:00-12:00

Join us for a report on the most recent research on how New Jersey municipal leaders are addressing the management challenges and opportunities created by the fiscal crisis.  Mayors, Business Administrators and State leaders will examine the hard decisions and different approaches municipalities are taking to deal with budget shortfalls and tax caps. What services should be provided, eliminated or re-imagined? What revenue or cost avoidance strategies can be implemented?  What are the leadership and management skills required of government in this new paradigm?  Although each municipality in New Jersey is unique, officials are seeking best practices for dealing with the need to “reset” the role of local government for citizens.

Two panels will explore the impact of property tax caps and the economic recession on service delivery and the role of municipalities in New Jersey.
